An incident that occurred at the Westfield Marion Shopping Center today is being looked into by police. On Sunday, June 23, just before 3:30 p.m.,
police were notified of two groups of young men fighting in the center’s food court area. There were rumors that some members of the group were armed.
The incident prompted center management to initiate an evacuation alarm and an audio alert, as well as lockdown procedures.
Officers from the STAR Group, among other police resources, arrived at the center to start looking for the groups responsible for the initial incident.
Despite a comprehensive search of the entire center—including the rooftops—the groups in question were not found.
Numerous customers who took sanctuary in stores were securely escorted out of the center. The community is not under continuous danger, according to the police.
Although more research is being done to determine which groups are involved, authorities think that they may have known one another. It is thought that the incidence was not random. Read More
