A criminal conviction would have meant the end of any other candidate’s hopes of becoming president at some point, but Trump’s political career has withstood two political trials, allegations of sexual abuse, investigations into potential ties to Russia, plans to rig an election, and embarrassing personal stories, such as one in which a woman was raped in her genitalia.

Additionally, the voters are aware of the general accusations made against them in this case since it dates back years. Although they are serious, many view them as less serious than the accusations made against them in the other three cases, which involve allegations of betraying American democracy and carelessly handling national security secrets.

Prior to the election results becoming known, Trump’s campaign had maintained that, regardless of the court’s decision, there was little chance that the outcome would affect voters and that the election would be decided on issues like inflation.

Nevertheless, it is likely that the president Joe Biden and other Democrats will use the ruling to support their claims that Trump is unfit to hold the office, even though as of right now the White House has only made one official statement stating that the incident respected the right of the state.

Conversely, the decision will provide greater support to the Republican virtual candidate’s unfounded claims that she is a victim of the criminal justice system, which she insists has political motivations against.
