Blue Earth County, Minnesota According to a news release from Blue Earth County, Emergency Management was notified on Sunday about debris that was starting to accumulate at the Rapidan Dam.
Staff members from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, and Emergency Management are currently keeping an eye on the dam.
The west side of the dam has seen considerable erosion due to the river.
The County infrastructure and Xcel Energy have contributed to the river’s detritus.
Blue Earth County is in communication with Xcel Energy regarding power disruptions.
In the event that debris is detected moving downstream, the County Road 33 and County Road 90 bridges may need to be blocked.
There is a high risk of the dam failing soon. Although Blue Earth County is unsure if it will fail completely or continue, it was decided that this notice ought to be sent out to inform downstream people, the appropriate regulatory bodies, and other local agencies.
The offices of Public Works, Emergency Management, and Sheriffs are putting the Rapidan Dam Emergency Action Plan for Imminent Failure of the Dam into practice.
These include informing possibly impacted residents, regulatory agencies, and other local agencies of the impending dam failure.
