ISLAMABAD: USC has backed down against the federal government’s plan to close the Utility Stores Corporation.
According to sources, the Utility Stores Corporation management has decided to seek help from the Parliament against the federal government’s plan.
The National Assembly and Senate Committees on Industry and Production will be approached against the government’s decision.
Standing Committees will be apprised of the impact of closure of utility stores.
Committees will be requested to raise the matter in the Parliament session.
USC sources say that by closing the utility stores, thousands of employees will lose their jobs, due to the closure of utility stores, millions of Pakistanis will lose cheap essentials.
The federal government has decided to close the utility stores corporation in the country, Secretary Industries and Production said that the federal government is deciding to close the utility stores, the Right Sizing Committee has prepared proposals that include various ministries.
The secretary said that the federal government does not have money due to which this decision is being taken, the stores will be closed on the timeline that will be decided after the approval of the cabinet.
Cabinet will approve the Secretariat Sizing Committee’s proposal to close other institutions.
In the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee, Senator Saifullah Niazi asked whether the government is going to close the utility stores.
So the Secretary Industries and Production said that the government is considering closing utility stores, work is underway to send the employees to other institutions.
He said that the government wants to get out of the unnecessary business, by giving relief to the stores, the atmosphere of competition ends.
