Bob Barker’s Animal Rights Activism Honored With New Boat Dedication From Anti-Poaching Nonprofit
The marine life conservation group Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has named a new anti-poaching boat in honor of the late “The Price Is Right” presenter, Bob Barker, in recognition of his decades of work for animal rights.
Sea Shepherd is an ocean-based conservation organization that trains ships to defend marine life. It places sailors and captains between poachers and the marine species they illegally hunt and kill for profit.
The new ship, called the “M/V Bob Barker,” is a tribute to Barker, a pioneer in the field of animal rights who championed numerous causes during his lifetime.
When the original “Bob Barker” spearheaded several campaigns to expose poachers and prosecute illegal fishing operations, Barker initially backed Sea Shepherd in 2009. But in 2022, the ship was disposed of.
Sea Shepherd CEO Pritam Singh stated, “Bob Barker is proud to extend his leadership on animal rights concerns well into the future. For decades, he motivated millions of people to safeguard the natural environment. It’s critical to acknowledge the significant gains made in the animal rights movement, most of which can be directly attributed to Bob Barker.
He made use of his special platform, which he recognized, to raise people’s consciousness of their own responsibilities to animals and their welfare.
According to Barker’s brother Kent Valandra, “Bob felt that Sea Shepherd’s brave response to animal rights offenders was especially valuable and courageous and he wanted to be a part of their efforts.”
