Three weeks into a ground campaign in the southern Gaza Strip city that has attracted close attention from both the US and neighboring Egypt, several Israeli tanks on Tuesday reportedly made their way to the heart of Rafah, according to witnesses who spoke with Reuters.
According to the witnesses, the tanks were seen close to the Al-Awda Mosque, a prominent landmark in Rafah. The Israeli military said it would release a statement regarding the Rafah operation later and declined to comment on their story right away.
