The government had imposed a withholding tax of 0.5 per cent per liter on petrol pumps in the budget while petrol pumps were already paying 12.5 per cent withholding tax on their margins.

Yesterday, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association had called for a nationwide strike against the additional tax and today the pumps remained closed from 6 am to evening due to which citizens were facing difficulties in traveling.

Long queues of vehicles were seen at petrol pumps after the strike was announced.

This evening the petroleum dealers announced to end the strike and open the pumps.

Abdul Sami Khan, Chairman of the Dealers Association, said that there is no grouping among the dealers, with the implementation of this tax, a tax of Rs 10 lakh will be collected from one pump.

He said that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had said that he will solve our problem but the problems are not over yet.

Abdul Sami Khan said that if our demands are not accepted, we will strike again, but now they are announcing the opening of pumps all over the country.
