KARACHI: Former federal minister Miftah Ismail has advised the government to remove all taxes from the bills while describing a simple recipe to make electricity cheaper immediately.

Addressing an event, Miftah Ismail said that the government should immediately abolish 18% sales tax and 7.5% advance income tax on electricity bills.

Leader Awam Pakistan Party said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would not mind if taxes are removed from electricity bills. By removing 24 taxes on bills, electricity will become 20% cheaper.

He said that we have electricity proposal, pay attention to it and everything will be fine, our aim is not to build properties but to serve the public.

He said that Pakistan will develop if people are brought forward, if people are poor, the country can never be rich, the local government system will have to be strengthened.

The former finance minister said that 100 billion will be given this year to cover the loss of railways, while 1500 billion is being given to the education department, but 78 percent of children cannot read 2 sentences.

Miftah Ismail said that there should be a law for both the rich and the poor, the process of privatization should be increased.

He demanded that slum dwellers in urban areas should be given ownership rights and a laborer who worked for 90 days should be considered permanent.

Miftah Ismail also demanded to open all contracts of IPPs.
