One of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar, Dhul-Hijja, began on Thursday, according to Saudi Arabia, which reported the sighting of the crescent.
June 16 is Eid Al-Adha, the day when the crescent is seen.
On June 15, the day before the main Muslim holiday, Arafat Day, will occur.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Supreme Court of the Kingdom urged citizens to see the moon on June 6 (Dhu al-Qi’dah 29, 1445 AH) in the evening.
