An agreement has been made by 21 farmers from Bagha Upazila with an exporting enterprise. Every nation receives a tonne of mangoes.

On Tuesday, the first shipment of mangoes from Rajshahi’s Bagha upazila—grown through “contract farming”—was shipped to Europe. In this shipment, two tons of Khirsapati mangoes have been sent.

 

A ton of mangoes will go to London and another ton to France out of this. These mangoes are being sent on behalf of the industrial organization Square organization.

 

21 Bagha Upazila farmers have signed a contract with the exporting company to export safe mangoes overseas, according to information provided by the office of the Bagha Upazila Agriculture Officer.

 

Mangoes have been grown using “Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)” in accordance with this agreement.

Respecting sanitary production, food safety and quality, environmental preservation, cleanliness, agricultural workers’ health, etc., is one of the practice’s requirements.

In order to ensure healthy output, it is necessary to apply pesticides, manage irrigation systems, use fertilizers appropriately, use planting materials and seeds, and use chemicals sparingly.

Preserving food safety and quality includes managing post-harvest storage and transportation.

 

Under this management, Bagha has started exporting mangoes overseas since 2016.

 

On the first day of this season, 200 kg of mangoes were sent from a farmer named Bidyut Hossain’s orchard and 1,800 kg of mangoes were sent from Sadi Enterprises, a company owned by farmer Shafiqul Islam of Kaligram, Bagha upazila.

200 kg of them are owned by a farmer by the name of Bidyut Hossain, and the rest mangoes are the property of their organization.

He added that 34 tons were exported overseas last year.

 

The exporter Square Group’s representative, Nazmul Hossain, reported that on the first day (Tuesday), they brought in two tons of mangoes from Bagha.

 

At about 5:30 p.m., the car loaded up with mangoes and headed for Dhaka.

 

Shafiullah Sultan, the agriculture officer for Bagha Upazila,

 

stated:”They are giving a certificate with the mangoes from here after seeing the mangoes cultivated through Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).”

 

The Dhaka quarantine center and Shyampur Packing House will then issue a second certificate. This mango will thereafter be exported.
