Islamabad: Tax collection of Rs.8 per unit from electricity consumers has been revealed.

According to Aaj Ki Aawaz News, a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy was held in which Energy Minister Owais Leghari said that the electricity consumer pays a tax of Rs 8 per unit.

He said that the tax machinery of FBR has failed so the entire burden is on the power sector, FBR has made the power sector a tax collection agent.

The Minister of Energy said that the demand for electricity has decreased by 8 and a half percent.

Owais Laghari said that the role of National Transmission and Dispatch Company in the power sector was very weak, restructuring NTDC.

Senator Mohsin Aziz said that the price of electricity has made life difficult for the poor, even if the poor use electricity, they die even if they don’t, even the middle class is suffering from expensive electricity.

In the standing committee meeting, it was asked to provide the details of how many IPPs have taken the profit so far.
